Limits of Control, The
Aroview: Indie King Jim Jarmusch directs this mysterious and moody crime thriller, in which a Lone Man wanders through Madrid and Seville on an undisclosed criminal mission.
Defined more by atmosphere than by narrative, the film features a shimmering soundtrack which is central to its sleek and spotless aesthetic, influenced by modern Spanish design and a good dose of surrealism. The cryptic and circular storyline is peppered by a line-up of fabulous cameo appearances by the likes of Tilda Swinton, Gael Garcia Bernal and Paz de la Huerta, all impenetrable and seductive figures in Jarmusch’s highly compelling existential enigma.

3 stars (Good Enough) Stylish 'action movie in drag' i.e. without action. Slow & repetitive pace is intended - see Extras. Jarmusch wanted to ‘reference dreams that you are not sure you had’. I think he does this successfully - the slow pace being the pace of dreams. ~Sandy
4 stars (Very Good) An enigmatic character (except that we know he can't speak Spanish, and collects matchboxes) with little to say, meets a string of strangers. In hindsight, it is actually a simple story but it is made compellingly interesting. ~Tubbs
