Coffee and Cigarettes
Aroview: A compendium of whimsical b&w shorts from lapsidaisical indie auteur Jim Jarmusch, set around various celebrity encounters over nicotine and caffeine.
Begun as a projected series in 1986, dir. Jarmusch has filled out the 3 completed segments with a further 8, managing to retain a spark of unpredictability with each successive, quirky combination of stars. More down the 'trivial zen' end of Jarmush's oeuvre, this nonetheless gathers a certain deadpan playfulness and pathos as it goes which will leave you smiling.
Favoured episodes include the guarded face-offs between Iggy Pop and Tom Waits; Cate Blanchett and her white-trash 'cousin' (played by herself) and most brilliantly Alfred Molina and Steve Coogan.

3 stars (Good Enough) An eclectic cast of actors and musicians feature in a series of short vignettes, involving sitting around drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes while discussing all manner of subjects. Slightly pretentious, but well acted and imaginative. ~GenXGirl
