Life Is A Bed Of Roses
Aroview: Ambitious fantastical oddity from dir. Resnais was made as a tribute to era-defining French directors Melies, L'Herbier and Rohmer, weaving together three storylines across three different eras, set against the backdrop of an Ardennes castle.
In an attempt to mix together drama, romance, fantasy and musical, Resnais film is predictably a little half-baked, his leap into the world of magic and dragons the most fully-realized (and visually gorgeous) of the three. Fanny Ardant is radiant as the object of a wicked Count's desires.
