Love Unto Death

Aroview: Alain Resnais (HIROSHIMA, MON AMOUR) pursues his themes of love and death with this symbolic tale of lovers Simon (Arditi) and Elizabeth (Azema) whose lives are thrown into an existential crisis when Simon briefly dies, only to come back with a longing for his experience of the afterlife.

A heady, if somewhat bewildering, exploration of mortality ensues, with Fanny Ardant and Andre Dussolier providing contrast as married ministers who try to understand Simon's plight in the context of their own religious beliefs.
