Puffy Chair, The
Aroview: A failed musician hits the road with his girlfriend to collect the "puffy chair" they've bought on E-Bay in this indie gem that keenly refreshes road-movie and rom-com conventions on a minimal budget.
Attributed as part of the "mumblecore" movement (so called because of the talk-heavy, low-tech productions) this is one of the best examples with a plot momentum that betrays the staple premise of twenty-something naval-gazing and apathy. Real-life couple Mark Duplass and Katie Aselton exude a chemistry and real acting chops as their relationship wobbles towards a crossroads, under confident direction that renders many crisply comic scenes and a generous emotional truth. Rhett Wilkins also engages as the free-spirited brother and 'third wheel'.
