Time Traveler's Wife, The
Aroview: Eric Bana’s rare genetic disorder sees him thrown intermittently backwards in time, much to the despair of his frustrated wife (Rachel McAdams), in this far-flung romance, based on Audrey Niffenegger’s best-selling novel.
Apparently a metaphor for the author’s failed relationships, the film is much less interested in grounding the sci-fi influenced story in such psychology or deeper thought, instead going for the jugular in terms of romantic melodrama. This sentimentality, along with the increasingly implausible scenario, will not bother those in search of a genuine weepy though, with perennial love interest McAdams fronting yet another certifiable tearjerker, clearly driven by the success of THE NOTEBOOK.
