Brothers Bloom, The
Aroview: Fanciful tale of two grifting brothers (Brody, Ruffalo) who, in attempting to ensnare an eccentric heiress (Weisz), fall for both her feminine charms and willingness to get in on the act.
A playful parade of filmmaking flourishes and whimsical set-pieces, dir. Johnson (BRICK) renders the oddball action in broad, colourful strokes, comparable to the eccentric cinema of Wes Anderson. While there’s more posing than conning going on this crime caper romance – one not up to the intricate plotting of classic con-artist movies such as THE STING – its remains genuinely appealing as a performance piece, with the cast (including a scene-stealing, comic-miming Rinko Kikuchi) clearly having fun.
