Aroview: South Africa's fraught history is tackled in this solid, involving account of President P.W. Botha’s segregationist regime, and his secretive talks with the soon-to-be-released Nelson Mandela – meetings that would precipitate the fall of Apartheid.
Harnesses a simmering, tense atmosphere around a series of precarious negotiations, and makes the most of the understated dignity of actors William Hurt and Chiwetel Ejiofor (as Thabo Mbeki). While its political idealism may be jaded by the way South Africa may have shaped itself in the post-Aparteid era, it well dramatizes a significant event and stands as a powerful testament to reconciliation in the face of impossible odds.

4 stars (Very Good) I was pleasantly surprised with this very effective and taut look at the lead-up to the end of apartheid. It doesn't hide behind the shortcomings of both sides of the divide and provides a sense of the dangers of life in South Africa during this time. ~The Myrka
