Uncertainty

USA 2009, 101 minutes
Dir. David Siegel, Scott McGehee
Rating: [M]
Genres: Suspense/Crime, Drama / Independent

Topics: Mind-bender.

Synopsis: A young couple, in love and facing a life-changing decision, find one seemingly ordinary July 4th cleaved in two by the flip of a coin on the Brooklyn Bridge.

“A taut, skillful exercise in cinematic clockwork.”~Stephen Holden, New York Times

Aroview: 'Uncertainty' is both the title and the key to enjoying this convention-defying thriller that interweaves two parallel stories that feature the same actors who may or may not be playing the same characters.

Both the action-thriller and domestic drama 'eventualities' bring the idea of fateful choices into sharp relief, with scenes of well-developed improvised dialogue bringing a natural element to the high-concept plot structure. This fourth film from the ever-intriguing directing partnership of McGehee and Siegel is still too oblique to break them into the mainstream, but it's characteristically original and smart enough to sate their devoted cult following, and keep us looking forward to their next cinematic trick.
