Heaven
Aroview: Banished into virtual anonymity by Miramax studio indifference, we can only assume they found this 'arty' thriller too slippery to pigeonhole and market, because what lies here is as solid and distinctive as any suspense film in recent years.
Adapted from the novel by Chad Taylor, the drama of gangsters and gamblers fatefully linked to the visions of a trans-sexual clairvoyant is heightened by deft inter-cutting of time frames, with NZ dir. Scott Reynolds demonstrating a storytelling flair to match his visual prowess. Utilising a renowned international cast this possesses a confidence we haven't seen in a local film since ONCE WERE WARRIORS.
