I'm Still Here
Aroview: Excruciating, morbidly humourous account of Joaquin Phoenix’s shock ‘retirement’ from acting to pursue a music career in rap, and the attention and skepticism it garnered from the Hollywood community and press.
As much a series of outrageous glimpses into the world of the ego-maniacal celebrity, as it is a serious broadside against the insidiousness of the entertainment industry, this is an extremely potent, if at times too-cruel-to-be-true behind the scenes documentary that more than outlasts its initial ‘DVD Special Feature’ premise. Elaborate fraud or not, the sight of Phoenix fearlessly falling from such a height – including comical encounters with the likes of P.Diddy and Ben Stiller along the way – is if nothing else a great creative descent into madness, where the line between genius and insanity is barely discernible.
