Aroview: Controversial Best Picture nominee, with Robert Mitchum investigating an anti-Semitic murder committed amongst American soldiers recently discharged from the war.

Based on a novel in which the victim was homosexual (altered for the movie by decree of Hays Code), this nevertheless delivered a potent commentary on the times through its depiction of race-related crime.

3 stars (Good Enough) I admit it: I have a man crush on Rober Mitchum and I'll watch him in anything. This noir is preachy and pretty rudimentary, but its message is terrifyingly relevant to contemporary America. "Hatred is like a gun" ...hoo boy. ~Pop&Coffee
