Ran
Aroview: The title translates to 'chaos'; it is Kurosawa's vast and bloody interpretation of Shakespeare's King Lear. Grandiose in every sense - a breathtaking tapestry of sumptuous photography, eye-popping battle scenes and classic drama.

5 stars (Exceptional) Hidetora leaving the burning castle is my favourite shot. Kurosawa's lifelong insistence on editing his films "in camera" to prevent bosses messing them up allowed him to film such a chaotic once-or-never take with the calm to make it so pretty. ~artsfiend
