Tron: Legacy

Aroview: Eye-popping sequel to Disney's digital effects landmark of the eighties, with Jeff Bridges reemerging as the arcade whiz trapped in an alternate computer universe now controlled by a tyrannical clone of himself.

Much like AVATAR, this 3-D shot feature employs the medium in a logical way, using the digital technology to transport the audience to another world, which although spectacularly rendered, retains the essence of the original film’s stripped-down aesthetic, based on the layout of computer circuits and schematics. Perfectly combined with the style and music of French electronica group Daft Punk, the film makes for splendid eye and ear candy. Less fetching, however, is its treatment of characterisation and story, and in sticking strictly to formula, leaves a lot to be desired outside of the dazzling visuals.
