Hunger Games, The
“A muscular, honorable, unflinching translation of Collins' vision. It's brutal where it needs to be, particularly when children fight and bleed.”~Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly
Aroview: A 16-year-old girl must compete in a televised tournament in which 24 teenagers from a post-apocalyptic society fight to the death for the entertainment of the masses.
This blockbusting big screen rendering of Suzanne Collins's best-selling young adult novels is aimed at the same market that flocked to the TWILIGHT films, but is superior in almost every way, and features a breakout performance from the talented Jennifer Lawrence (WINTER'S BONE).

3 stars (Good Enough) A decent, albeit fairly shallow, tale that could have been so much more but for its teenage target audience. More mature audiences may prefer to look to Battle Royale. ~Tom H
4 stars (Very Good) Lawrence's fine performance anchors the centre, while Ross deftly balances spectacle and character. The romantic subplot is a bit clunky, but this is still impressive and I can't wait for the sequel(s). ~HiFi
3 stars (Good Enough) It is a good screenplay with some intelligence going into the action scenes rather than violence for violence sake. ~tubbs
