Cell 211
Aroview: A substantial hit in its native Spain, this brutal thriller doubles as an intelligent critique of the Spanish penal system, with a young prison guard caught up in a prison revolt posing as a prisoner in order to survive.
Bristling with an almost palpable sense of anger at prison authorities, the police and ultimately the Government, this brawny piece of agitprop occasionally threatens to overplay its hand, but is a model of ripped-from-the-headlines pulpy suspense, the likes of which directors such as Sam Fuller would be proud.
