Casino Jack and the United States of Money
Aroview: Another compelling take on high-level corruption from dir. Alex Gibney (ENRON, TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE), this time delivering a weighty account of the fraud and conspiracy committed by Washington, D.C. lobbyist and businessman Jack Abramoff, aka 'Casino Jack'.
Abramoff, a one-time Hollywood producer (best known for Dolph Lundgren's 'Red Scorpion'), was convicted in 2006 of offering various bribes for political favours, and Gibney's documentary does an impressive job of condensing an overabundance of material on the saga into a potent portrait of arrogance and greed. Though hardly a scoop, a valuable overview of a recent major scandal in American politics.
