Taxi to the Dark Side
Aroview: Academy Award-winning documentary from the dir. of ENRON exposing the darker impulses of the US forces through the true story of an Afghani cabbie tortured to death in US custody.
Centering around this and other incidents at Abu Grahib, many of the 'culprits' from the US army calmly reflect on a deteriorating situation where they were forced to interpret deliberately ambiguous procedural guidelines. In assessing the political mentality that encourages the use of torture by its military interrogators (in spite of the Geneva Convention), right and wrong are not always easily defined as the film examines US official policies and their application on detainees in Guantanamo Bay.
Notably, among the humanitarian voices here are Republican senator and Vietnam vet, John McCain.
