“A fresh, gorgeously filmed, totally engaging charmer.”~Linda Burgess, The Dominion Post
Aroview: Dir. Roseanne Liang adapts her winning documentary (BANANA IN A NUTSHELL) on the struggle to get her traditional Chinese parents to accept her Kiwi boyfriend into a bright, sweet-natured romantic comedy on the cross-cultural divide.
While the facts have been exaggerated to fit the formula, this is grounded in a genuine relationship that comes under pressure from external elements, and is certainly unique in its incorporation of events from both Liang's life and documentary. Yes, it is at times too cutesy for its own good, but it does at least provide a refreshing alternative to budding romantics wanting pause from love American-style.
