Warrior's Way, The
Aroview: A ninja assassin (Jang Dong-Gun) on the run from his former clan is forced to hide in the American Badlands after refusing a mission to kill a baby.
Shot on an Auckland soundstage, this flamboyant green-screen mash-up of western mythology and samurai folklore is damn good fun as a tongue-in-cheek action adventure high on its own imaginative visuals and preposterous martial arts sequences, but it also retains the personal signature of debut writer/director Lee, who took a decade to develop the project. Geoffrey Rush and a wonderfully malevolent Danny Huston add further touches of class.
