Larry Crowne
Aroview: Feel-good flop, with Tom Hanks as an affable Navy vet who loses his job but bounces back, predictably, by enrolling in community college and wooing his gorgeous but miserable teacher, played toothily by Julia Roberts.
Co-written by Nia Vardalos, this Joe Average rom-com wears a chummy, she'll-be-right attitude on its sleeve that's frankly, unsophisticated and patronising. On the plus side, the old-fashioned star pairing of Hanks and Roberts is a welcome throwback to the double-team comedies of yesteryear.

1 star (Turkey) Larry - affable and resourceful throughout - has no character arc (Joss Whedon calls it 'Airforce 1 Syndrome'). The rest (apart from Takei) is at best inept, at worst plain embarrassing. Glimpses of what it could have been, but only occasional ones. ~HiFi
