Warrior
Aroview: Dramatically sound underdog story of two estranged brothers who battle domestic struggles while fighting to compete in a lucrative mixed martial arts tournament.
Though rarely deviating from the formula adhered to by every other macho sports movie of late (THE WRESTLER and THE FIGHTER two recent Oscar contenders it seems almost indistinguishable from), this pays special attention to the human folly and desperation of its working class characters, with its dual narrative and gravelly performances yielding highly satisfying results. While wearing the sporting/blue collar cliche on its sleeve, the film also offers a serious insight into the brutal, if misunderstood world of MMA, more commonly associated with the popular UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship).
