Footnote
“Rigorously balanced in its sympathies, the film is a human comedy that spans and understands the generations.”~Time
Aroview: A father and son's complicated relationship is tested over the award of a vaunted academic prize in their shared field of Talmudic studies in this sparkling, bittersweet Jewish comedy.
Extracting its humour from unusual sources, the film intelligently sends up both the stuffiness of academia and the complexities of family rivalry, especially when personal and professional jealousies mix. Remarkably well scripted and characterised, only so much so that the ending may leave you wanting more. Nominated for Best Foreign Language film at the 2012 Academy Awards.
