Genres: Science Fiction / Outer Space

Synopsis: A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe.
Aroview: Ridley Scott's return to the ALIEN franchise results in his most visually enthralling film since BLADE RUNNER, with outstanding art direction and special effects providing the audience with a satisfyingly tense and immersive viewing experience.
On the downside, the screenwriters have conspired to send a largely dimwitted assortment of scientists into deep space, especially considering the ambitious "genesis of mankind" at its foundation. ALIEN fans may also be a little irked by some series continuity gaffes, though generally it more than measures up for those not over-burdened by expectation, and certainly as a lavish Hollywood spectacle.

2 stars (Good Try) Prometheus never seems to know what it wants to be. At times, space adventure story, at times sci-fi horror, the film starts out well (very well in fact), but takes a tumble part-way and never recovers. A poor addition to the Alien series. ~Tom H
3 stars (Good Enough) The special effects overwhelm the characters - never seen Charlize with so little to do - other than use a flame thrower. ~Tubbs
4 stars (Very Good) Thoroughly enjoyed this. I think it is an excellent addition to the ALIEN universe. Stunning film to look at, yes, there are some script issues, but put those aside and just enjoy the ride. ~Anon
4 stars (Very Good) Enjoyable film with plenty of edge-of-seat tension created mainly by unusually stupid ship's crew. Broader outlook than the first two Alien movies; but lacks their tight focus. Top quality audio and visual production---and with lots of cliches to enjoy. ~Anon
5 stars (Exceptional) Mystery and goo! A terrific relevant reboot to what burst out of the 1970's by Dan O'Bannon, Ronald Shusett, H.R. Giger and Ridley Scott. Updated with more modern takes on genetic engineering and ancient astronaut theory. ~Dr_'n'
