“A very different kind of love story, breaking taboos lightly, with sensitivity and humor.”~CNN
Aroview: A compassionate, entertaining drama adapted from the memoir of a writer whose lifelong confinement to an iron lung compels him to lose his virginity with the help of a professional 'sex surrogate' and unconventional priest.
Sensitively and refreshingly handled, and featuring two brave and brilliant performances from John Hawkes and Helen Hunt, this mixes the deep pathos of films with similarly disabled protagonists like THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY and THE SEA INSIDE with an accessibly playful tone that recalls the work of dir. Alexander Payne (SIDEWAYS, THE DESCENDENTS).

2 stars (Good Try) Strange subject matter - would pay to be in the mood. A poor relation to Diving Bell and Sea Inside. ~Tubbs
2 stars (Good Try) Ultimately shallow. Most interesting wld have been the reconciliation btwn religion & choices made & the diffs btwn priest & writer. Sadly unexplored. Sex-thing itself tastefully handled, but predictable & uninteresting by comparison. ~procyon
