Sound of My Voice
“A smart, effectively unsettling movie about the need to believe and the hard, cruel arts of persuasion.”~New York Times
Aroview: A couple working on a documentary exposé find their skepticism tested as they submit themselves to a rigorous indoctrination into a secretive cult led by a charismatic woman claiming to be from the future.
Not unlike ANOTHER EARTH, whose fresh-faced co-writer and star Brit Marling also fills a creative and performance role here, this strives for an exquisite balance between emotional depth and controlled suspense, although for the most part comes up short, particularly in its inferior, glibly conceived ending. Nevertheless, an engrossing sci-fi conceit grounded in the recognizable and held up by the power (and indeed, danger) of ideas.
