Aroview: The Coen brothers direct Oscar Isaac as a forlorn folk singer in this effective and evocative ode to the Greenwich Village music scene shot in black and white.

2 stars (Good Try) Went right over my head. I probably would've enjoyed it more if I liked folk music. Not quite redeemed by that scene where they put Oscar Isaac, Justin Timberlake and Adam Driver in a room together. ~Truant
4 stars (Very Good) Noirish folk-themed odyssey which seems closest in spirit to 'A Serious Man'. Isaac's wonderful performance kept me right there with the character, every step of the way... ~HiFi
5 stars (Exceptional) A winning film about - gulp - failure. Great cast, evocative wintry cinematography, and indelible songs. The famously sharp Coen humor is here, but so is an aching, haunting sadness unprecedented in their work. Bittersweet perfection. ~fairbrother
4 stars (Very Good) A really strange pleasure to watch. Before folk hit Bob Dylan here is the guy who wasn’t quite Bob. In detail, down and out in NYC. A must see. ~bikewrench
4 stars (Very Good) Some more excellent Cohen screenwriting and music collaboration with T Bone Burnett. The winter scenes are well done and even with an overcoat, it is cold. The casting is spot on with the verbal sparring between Oscar Isaac and John Goodman the highlight. ~Tubbs
