Gift, The
“a pleasant - or pleasantly unpleasant - surprise, hitting its genre marks in brisk, unfussy fashion and raising a few hairs on the back of your neck along the way. ”~Jon Frosch, The Hollywood Reporter
Aroview: Australian actor Joel Edgerton acquits himself admirably as first time writer/director of this LA-set psycho-thriller that revives the 'yuppies in peril' cycle of the early 90's.
In this one, a young married couple's lives are thrown into a tailspin when an acquaintance from the husband's past brings mysterious gifts and a horrifying secret to light after more than 20 years. Though the final revelation isn't the devastating blow it tries to be, this is otherwise a tidy and enjoyable thriller where the fun is in observing where it conforms and deviates from the genre formula.
