Hell or High Water
“Despite treading some familiar territory, [this] proves itself a brilliantly executed, sharply written genre gem. ”~CineVue
Aroview: An exceptional ten-gallon thriller in which a divorced father and his ex-con older brother resort to a desperate but righteous scheme in order to save their family's ranch in West Texas.
Jeff Bridges plays the grizzled county sherriff in pursuit, and delivers much of the film's bittersweet humour, often at the expense of his Native American partner, played by Gil Birmingham. It ticks all the boxes of a solid genre film, but is elevated by a script that deftly explores complex layers of justice in all its forms while its blue-collar American setting especially resonates in a populist political climate.
