Letters From Baghdad
“Vividly insightful, it's the timely, true story of an intrepid explorer, the strong-willed woman who influenced Middle Eastern history in the early 1900s. ”~Susan Granger, SSG Syndicate
Aroview: The complex history of the Middle East and British colonial power is explored in this documentary centered around the remarkable life of British explorer, archeologist, spy and stateswoman Gertrude Bell. Featuring Tilda Swinton as the voice of Bell, the film uses the letters, diaries and official documents of this "female Lawrence of Arabia", paired with her own photography collection and century old previously unseen film footage of the Middle East.

5 stars (Exceptional) Unique portrait of Bell in the Middle East 1913-26 through letters and photos. Memorable footage of Baghdad. Activities of UK & USA are marred by broken promises. Gertrude’s spirit, political skills, loves and formation of the Baghdad Museum shown. Super! ~Sandy
