Queen of the Desert
Synopsis: Werner Herzog directs this worthy biopic of British explorer and adventurer Gertrude Bell focusing on her time in the Middle East.
“It is grown-up, respectable and historical, perfectly competently made, lots of accents and period dressing-up ... and just the tiniest bit dull. ”~Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

2 stars (Good Try) The spirit of inquiry & complexity of the time eludes this film which degrades to a series of failed romances. Kidman acts well but is far too tall & beautiful to be Gertrude Bell. Moroccan scenery fails to capture the period. Read her books instead! ~Sandy
2 stars (Good Try) A condensing of the story telling may have helped - it may have had a sheik too many & the love interest wasn't really needed. Pattinson didn't look anything like Peter O'Toole. The saving grace was the gorgeous photography especially of the deserts. ~Tubbs
