Citizen Jane: Battle for the City
“It’s a finely woven tapestry that feels as relevant and alive as the place you live.”~Owen Gleiberman, Variety
Aroview: Documentary about urban theorist and activist Jane Jacobs, who campaigned in the 1960's against the building of mass high-rise accommodation and superhighways in New York. The dangers of allowing Trumpian powerbrokers and developers to destroy neighborhood diversity is explored through the context of this historical David vs Goliath story. The issues first introduced in Jane Jacobs' book The Death and Life of Great American Cities (1960) are found to be ever-relevant in today's increasingly gentrified and hyper-urbanized cities.

3 stars (Good Enough) An annoying and unnecessary music soundtrack made it hard to make out the commentary but it is an important and still relevant story so will search out her book. ~Tubbs
5 stars (Exceptional) Brilliantly relevant to NZ doco on this brave woman who stood up against those who would recreate NYC as a giant slum motorway - and won. NYC today is her creation. Familiars of NYC appreciate Jane Jacobs. Vivid footage of street life not in her book. ~Sandy
