In the Fade
“There is an unanswerable force to this angry, unblinking depiction of the consequences of far-right violence in Europe today.”~Edward Lawrenson, The Big Issue
Aroview: Diane Kruger's momentous performance is central to this drama about a woman called Katja from Hamburg, whose husband and son are killed in a terrorist bombing. She is overcome with anguish and eventually feelings of vengeance as she struggles to cope with her uncontrollable grief. A rare German language performance for the German-born Kruger, under the direction of Fatih Akin (THE EDGE OF HEAVEN), who draws on his experience growing up in Hamburg. Named after the song by Queens of the Stone Age, and with a soundtrack by Josh Homme.

3 stars (Good Enough) Well done to Diane Kruger who is on camera most of the film. The backbone to the screenplay is a courtroom battle which is extremely well done and is dominated by a strong performance from Johannes Krisch as the defense attorney. ~Tubbs
5 stars (Exceptional) Very fine movie of the destruction of a Kurdish-German family by the Far Right in Europe. Very relevant today. Miscegenation is the greatest anathema to the Far Right, yet has risen steadily since 1934 & has many genetic benefits. Not violent, moving. ~Sandy
