Three Worlds of Jacques Cousteau, The
Aroview: A trilogy of award-winning documentary feature films from famed oceanogragher, Jacques Cousteau.
The Silent World (1956) won the Palm D'Or at Cannes and is noted as one of the first films to use underwater cinematography to show the ocean depths in colour, shot aboard his ship, Calypso. The film later faced criticism for environmental damage done during the filmmaking.
World Without Sun (1964) chronicles "Conshelf Two", the first ambitious attempt to create an environment in which men could live and work on the seafloor. In it, six oceanauts lived 10 meters down in the Red Sea in a star-fish shaped house for 30 days. It also won an Academy Award for Best Documentary feature.
Voyage to the Edge of the World (1976) is Cousteau's third and final feature doco in which he leads the Calpyso on a four month expedition through Antarctica, and was co-directed and co-narrated by Cousteau's son, Philippe.
