Portrait of a Lady on Fire
“Visually ravishing (...) a piercingly intelligent treatise on art, agency and queer love in the 18th century.”~TheWrap
Aroview: Céline Sciamma (GIRLHOOD) directs this devastatingly good, exquisitely executed lesbian period drama. Set in France in the 18th century, where a female artist is commissioned to paint a wedding portrait of a bride-to-be, whose reluctance to marry requires the artist to observe her by day and secretly paint her by night.

5 stars (Exceptional) 'Painterly' by nature as well as by name. The performances and formal precision are quietly captivating and, cumulatively, very moving. Just gorgeous. ~fairbrother
4 stars (Very Good) Subtle & sophisticated with very fine acting. Perhaps the storyline is rather predictable, but it's well worth watching. ~Sandy
3 stars (Good Enough) Although little happens it is beautifully made. A very undemanding but worthwhile two hours. ~Tubbs
