For Sama
“Simple in concept and shattering in execution, blending hard-headed reportage with unguarded personal testimony, it’s you-are-there cinema of the most literal order.”~Variety
Aroview: Groundbreaking document of Syrian War, produced, directed and narrated by a journalist and political rebel under the pseudonym Waad Al-Kateab. Chronicles her life across 5 turbulent years during the Battle of Aleppo, which started in 2011 when she was a marketing student at the University of Aleppo. The film is dedicated to her daughter Sama, who was born into the conflict. An incredible mix of personal and political insights make this one of the most intimate and vital accounts available of life during modern wartime.

5 stars (Exceptional) Best doco on the Syrian tragedy. These gentle, kind & brave men & women kept this secret hospital open during 4 years of intense bombing. Personal, intimate and real; as are the people of Aleppo. I love their loyalty to this city, the world's oldest. ~Sandy
