Assistant, The
“A quiet work with major ambitions, The Assistant is a significant cultural statement in cinematic form.”~Eric Kohn, IndieWire
Aroview: A searing, beautifully modulated indictment of toxic office culture in the wake of the #MeToo movement, that follows the daily routine of an intern at a film production company. With very little "drama", the film draws its power from the understated veracity of Julia Garner's performance, who finds herself at the mercy of her colleagues and her abusive boss - a powerful, undeniably Weinstein-esque executive figure.

3 stars (Good Enough) Shows the viciously degrading exploitation of dedicated young women staff by many men. For me, a bit too realistic to be interesting. Certainly well shows the inefficiency and aggressive nature of open-plan offices, if nothing else. ~Anon
3 stars (Good Enough) Julia Garner was terrific in the demanding "Ozark" (2017-22) and she doesn't let her fans down in this understated role. The office situation as portrayed was very believable. ~Tubbs
