Babyteeth
“Works best as an abrasive four-hander, though Murphy’s limber, sensually electric direction leaves the film with little clear evidence of its theatrical origins.”~Variety
Aroview: Australian coming-of-age drama marking the feature debut for director Shannon Murphy (KILLING EVE), from a screenplay by Rita Kalnejais, based upon her stage play of the same name.
Eliza Scanlen plays a terminally ill teenager from a privileged background who falls in love with a drug dealer, much to the distress of her parents. Scanlen (SHARP OBJECTS, LITTLE WOMEN) brings a tremendous dynamism to the role, encompassing visceral teen longing and a coming-to-terms with her own mortality. A diverse soundtrack and gorgeously saturated colour palette contribute to this fresh and powerful take on familiar adolescent themes.
