A Hidden Life
“A sombre spiritual war epic which surges up to claim its place among the director’s most deeply felt, sturdily hewn achievements.”~Tim Robey, The Telegraph
Aroview: Historical drama of distinction from writer director Terrence Malick (THE THIN RED LINE), depicting the life of Franz Jägerstätter, an Austrian peasant farmer who refused to fight for the Nazis in WWII. Arrested and taken to prison, he finds strength in his Catholic faith and in his enduring love for his wife, who is increasingly ostracised from their small rural community due to his political dissent. A beautifully poetic and spiritual film about human resilience, with strong messages about the complicity of church and state that remain relevant.

2 stars (Good Try) Dreadfully slow, melodramatic. Weak script & plot. Nazis shot 15,000 objectors, US jailed 6000 & NZ 800. Only accuracy is utter corruption of the Church, still bribed today by German & Austrian taxes. A river of gold to the Vatican (12 b euros, 2020). ~Anon
2 stars (Good Try) The story was okay but it is a pity it took so long to tell. ~Tubbs
