“Takes the old is-it-mental-illness-or-is-it-really-a-ghost formula and swing for the fences in a rain-sodden antipodean mansion somewhere halfway between rural Aotearoa and sheer hell.”~Stuff.co.nz
Aroview: Beautifully-lensed NZ horror shot in a grand old mansion in Lower Hutt, following an academic studying black magic (Emma Draper, DAFFODILS) who returns to her childhood home heavily pregnant, but becomes consumed by the repressed trauma of her youth.
Making matters worse is that her poisonous estranged mother (English import Julia Ormond) is present and causing intolerable claustrophobia and unease. For the most part it's a brilliantly creepy two-hander with Draper and Ormond providing intense performances, which builds patiently to a sickening conclusion that fans of classic 70's horror will appreciate.
