Aroview: Hong Kong martial arts epic set circa the 10th century, with a Mongol army attempting to overthrow the influential Yang family, defenders of the Song dynasty, after a tip off from a corrupt Song general.

When the 5th son of the Yang family takes refuge in a Buddhist monastery where blades are not allows, he develops his skills in spears using a pole to practice, and the influential eight diagram pole fighting technique is born.

A product of the Shaw Brothers production company, which is known for exaggerated acting styles and stagey melodrama, but like many of the others, it features outstanding fight sequences.
