36th Chamber of Shaolin, The
Aroview: Thirsty for revenge, Gordon Liu (of KILL BILL) joins the Shaolin Temple to equip himself with the necessary kung fu skills in the definitive Shaw Brothers vehicle.
Largely iconic for its memorable ‘chamber’ sequences – where our hero must negotiate 36 mental and physical tests before graduating in the Shaolin discipline – this remains far from kung faux, thrusting unencumbered fight sequences, Buddhist principles, and signature sound effects into what is considered the undisputed champion of the martial arts genre.

5 stars (Exceptional) A film that any real martial arts fanatic should have already seen more than once. A testament to the capture of real martial arts on film, Gordon Liu proves we don't need convenient cuts, sped-up film, CGI or other Hollywood tricks. ~Tom H
