Aro Recommended Rose Plays Julie

Ireland / UK 2019, 100 minutes
Dir. Christine Molloy, Joe Lawlor
Genres: Drama, Suspense/Crime

“Its emotional dilemmas, depictions of trauma, revenge and fractured family ties are handled with such skill and sense of purpose, it is truly exemplary film-making.”~Martyn Conterio, CineVue

Aroview: Bracing drama made by the interdisciplinary art collective Desperate Optimists, which follows an adopted Irish girl who tracks down her birth mother.

Her journey uncovers a dark history of abuse and trauma within her biological family, which becomes increasingly terrifying as she delves deeper. A visionary film which boldly pushes a deceptively straight forward plot into surrealist horror territory, as the psychological tumult of the main character is expressed through striking camerawork and aural motifs.
