5 stars (Exceptional) C'mon people! Five stars for the set design, process photography and Stanley Cortez' camerawork alone. And then there's the unearthly atmosphere, the performances...a wondrously strange masterpiece. ~HiFi

5 stars (Exceptional) A gothic fairytale with Mitchum at his most mythical. After it was initially received poorly on release, Laughton was so crushed he never directed again. He didn't count on its lingering appeal. Stays with you for years. ~Regando
