Wanda
Aroview: The sole writing/directing credit of Barbara Loden, whose command of verite storytelling is matched by her own astonishing performance as a feckless waif who 'wanders' into the disdainful company of a petty crook.
Rightfully considered a lost masterpiece of American independent cinema, this presaged the likes of BADLANDS and the many subsequent portrayals of wasted America. Ms. Loden was at one time married to legendary director Elia Kazan.

3 stars (Good Enough) in classic hollywood, passivity is most always a virtue in its women, as it allows them to be rescued in heroic fashion. Loden asks us to watch how ridiculous such virtues look in a world where children are a burden and men use you. ~artsfiend
