Aroview: Smalltown lawyer James Stewart defends a man accused of murdering a suspected rapist. The shifting ambiguities of the case make this more a 'cross-examination' of the American legal system itself. Score by Duke Ellington.

5 stars (Exceptional) A brilliant court room drama with excellent acting from Jimmy Stewart, George C Scott and pretty much everyone else. ~dr.strangelove
5 stars (Exceptional) A surprisingly modern, completely absorbing and truly subversive view of the law and its practitioners. Beautifully photographed, with a stunning cast (Remick and Gazzara are particularly good). Knocks other courtroom dramas into a cocked hat. ~HiFi
2 stars (Good Try) Stewart is another goodie goodie and gets most of the best lines.Would like to have seen more of Eve Arden. In the court room the highlight is the performance of Joseph Welch as the judge who scene steals. Scott in an early role is subdued. Far too long. ~Tubbs
