Mean Streets
Aroview: Martin Scorsese made his name with this pungent rendition of NY Italian-Americana set among the teeming lowlife of his old neighbourhood. The loyalties of Harvey Keitel and buddies are divided over the debt-dodging antics of their friend Robert De Niro. Propulsive camerawork, sharp acting and a seminal rock soundtrack collide in some of cinema's grittiest scenes.

4 stars (Very Good) Gritty, hard-hitting drama set in a NY Italian hood, this classic of the genre comes together with fine directing, editing, acting, and soundtrack selection. ~Tom H
3 stars (Good Enough) Harvey K, as one of the suits, does well and anchors the storyline but it is the location shooting in the streets that stands out. ~Tubbs
