Grace of My Heart

Aroview: Inspired by the career path of Carole King, this episodic tale charts the mixed fortunes of a female singer/songwriter in the thick of the patriarchal pop machine, from the twee '50s through to the introspective early '70s. John Turturro, Eric Stoltz and Matt Dillon play second fiddle to Illeanna Douglas (Mrs. Martin Scorsese) who, like her character, finally secures time in the leading limelight. While mostly engaging, it spreads its net ambitiously wide, allowing interest to lag in the final reel.
