Defiant Ones, The
Aroview: That well known image of race-hatred - escaped black and white prisoners unwillingly handcuffed together - originated here, with jailbirds Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier sharing bracelets.
The 'messages' now seem a little overt, but the laidback pacing, quirky humour and oddball Southern characters make this a vivid watch still.

3 stars (Good Enough) "You can't lynch me I'm white". Well written and performed - loved the strong and hard bitten supporting cast of Claude Akins, Theodore Bikel, Charles McGraw, and Lon Chaney. ~Tubbs
