Tess
Aroview: Though beautifully shot, Thomas Hardy's classic novel gets a surprisingly mild treatment from dir. Roman Polanski. Wessex farmgirl Nastassja Kinski receives unjust treatment from the law when she is raped, so exacts her own revenge.

3 stars (Good Enough) The most interesting aspect was the portrayal in the period of rural working class life . ~Tubbs
4 stars (Very Good) Won 3 Oscars in 1991. Nastassja Kinski is (as usual) riveting); a quiet but very sad film, well reflective of Thos.Hardy's novel. It certainly destroys any romantic fantasies concerning the lives of young women in the 19thC Wessex countryside ~Anon
